Portions of Birnham Woods Drive will be closed this summer to ensure that lanes are open before August to prevent disruptions in school traffic, according to Montgomery County Precinct 3.

A project to widen Birnham Woods Drive from two to four lanes from Waterbend Cove to Rayford Road began work in March with a 420-day contract, officials said. The completed project will result in two lanes in each direction in addition to a left-turn lane at Birnham Woods and Waterbend and at Birnham Woods and Lexington Boulevard. The closures will take place between Lexington and Waterbend beginning the week of June 6 and from Lexington to Trophy Ridge in July. In the meantime, officials said contractors Main Lane Industries will work on pavement and subgrade widening with concrete pouring beginning May 21.
