Montgomery County Precinct 3 began seeking bids for a project to widen a section of Rayford Road east of the Grand Parkway in August.

The project will widen Rayford to four lanes between an area 40 feet east of Waterbend Cove to approximately 400 feet east of Birnham Woods Drive. The proposed work includes creating two new eastbound travel lanes from Waterbend Cove to the intersection with Birnham Woods and using the existing road for the westbound lanes.

The project will also include building a bridge for eastbound Rayford traffic east of Spring Trails Park Drive.

A traffic signal will be added at the Rayford-Birnham Woods intersection, where Birnham Woods will be widened to four lanes from about 600 feet north of Rayford to 600 feet south of Rayford. All four Rayford-Birnham Woods intersection approaches will have a dedicated left turn lane, according to a Precinct 3 news release.

The project is intended to improve mobility in the developing area east of the Grand Parkway, according to a news release from Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack.

Construction on the project will tentatively last from this fall through fall 2021.
