A number of road projects are underway in The Woodlands area, some of which are funded by the Montgomery County road bond, while others are ongoing projects from the Texas Department of Transportation. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
Upcoming projects
1. Robinson Road widening
Project: The project will widen Robinson Road to four lanes between Oak Ridge Park Drive and Willow Creek Park and improve roadside drainage infrastructure with an underground storm sewer.
Update: Design was nearing completion, with parcel acquisition ongoing. The utility relocation coordination had started as of a Sept. 14 update from Montgomery County Precinct 3.
2. Sawdust Road Bridge replacement
Project: The project will raise the bridge and its approaches at East Panther Branch as well as add a pedestrian bridge.
Update: As of Sept. 14, the project design was nearly 60% complete and hydraulic modeling was completed. Officials were working on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permits.
Grand Parkway area improvements
Project: The project will change the center lane on southbound Rayford Road under the Grand Parkway from a thru lane to a shared through/left-turn lane, among other improvements between Rayford and Benders Landing Boulevard.
Update: Design is nearing 60% completion, and utility relocations are being coordinated. The project will begin construction in 2027.

4. Grogans Mill Road at North Millbend Drive intersection upgrade
Project: The project will redesign the traffic signal and intersection layout, upgrade traffic signal facilities, replace pavement in the intersection and restripe the intersection.
Update: As of Sept. 14, all pavement and intersection design was complete, and new signal equipment was scheduled to arrive for installation late in the month.
5. Grogans Mill Road at Grogan's Mill Village Center traffic signal replacement
Project: The traffic signal at the entrance to the Grogan's Mill Village Center on Grogans Mill Road is being replaced.
Update: As of Sept. 14, pavement work was complete. The new signal equipment was scheduled to arrive and be installed in September, followed by restriping.
6. Hwy. 242 widening
Project: TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent update released by TxDOT, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 96% complete.
Timeline: Oct. 23, 2023-fourth quarter 2026
Cost: $29.11 million

7. Drainage improvements on I-45 feeder
Project: The project will construct drainage improvements on the northbound and southbound frontage roads of I-45 from Shenandoah Park Drive to Hwy. 242.
Update: Work on the project is 10% complete, according to a September update from TxDOT. The project is being completed by James Construction Group.

8. Rayford Road and Discovery Creek Boulevard traffic signal
Project: A traffic signal was placed at the intersection, and the project added left-turn lanes in both directions on Rayford Road.
Update: Turn lane construction and traffic signal installation were completed.
