The Memorial Hermann Ironman North American Championship Texas Triathlon returns to The Woodlands April 27, meaning several roads in The Woodlands and Spring areas will be closed Saturday. Athletes from around the world compete at the annual triathlon, which includes a 2.4-mile swim in Lake Woodlands, a 112-mile bike course through Montgomery and Harris counties and a 26.2-mile run. According to The Woodlands Township, more than 3,000 registered participants and 4,000 community volunteers participate in the event, which also will affect traffic in the area. Downloadable course maps are available for the swim, bike and run courses. Roads that will be closed for the run course are:
  • Waterway Avenue from Lake Robbins Drive to To Timberloch Place: Friday and Saturday
  • Riva Row from Grogan’s Mill Road to Six Pines: 5 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday
  • Lake Robbins from Grogan’s Mill to Six Pines: 5 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday
For a complete list of roads affected by the race for portions of the day, traffic route information is also available as a downloadable PDF. A phone number has been set up to address traffic concerns at 281-964-7681, and information about the race in general is available at www.ironman.com/texas. Early voting is still scheduled to take place at 2235 Lake Robbins Drive, which is only accessible by Grogan's Mill Road, according to Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack's office. Voters can access the community center through the main entrance off Lake Robbins Drive from Grogan's Mill Road. Precinct 3 recommends voters take Research Forest Drive to southbound Grogan’s Mill, turn left onto Lake Robbins Drive and enter the community center parking lot. The polling location is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
