Texas A&M Forest Service is planning several small prescribed burns in W. Goodrich Jones State Forest from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 21-22.

Prescribed burns are a standard forest management tool which help restore endangered species habitats, reduce undergrowth and can help to prevent wildfires, according to a news release from Texas A&M Forest Service.

The planned burns will be dependent on weather conditions both days, but as of March 20, they were still planned, Public Information Officer Stuart Morris said.

The Texas A&M Forest Service posts and emails notifications regarding the burns to area residents and groups that frequent the forest as well as area city and fire officials, according to the news release. The events also serve as cross-training for fire departments and the fire service.
