Canopy, a Cancer Survivorship Center, will officially open July 5 at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

The state-of-the-art facility is a 3,000-square-foot sanctuary where cancer survivors and their caregivers have access to support groups, counseling services, a demonstration kitchen, fitness and art therapy classes, online medical research libraries and massage therapy.

“Together we want to support those battling cancer—no matter where they are being treated or where they are in the course of their journey—by offering free programs and services that enhance their quality of life,” said Josh Urban, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

Canopy features a private dressing area for breast prosthesis and bra fittings as well as a wig salon. The space will also be available for head-shaving parties for patients and their loved ones, said Linda Nelson, director of marketing for Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

“Canopy has been a labor of love,” Urban said. “It was originally imagined by the extremely dedicated Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health committee and has morphed into a project that the entire community wants to stand behind.”

Drop-in hours for Canopy are scheduled from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday.

Carolyn Allsen, RN, BSN, OCN, oncology nurse navigator, and Amanda Poole, facility coordinator, will manage ongoing Canopy programs and services. Allsen will serve patients directly while Poole oversees programming, scheduling and volunteers.

“Canopy was made possible through generous donations from Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health, Kelly and Brady Hull, Jennie and Mark Moran, Tricia and Jack Futcher, and Debbie and Pat Conlon,” Urban said. “We also couldn’t have done it without Laurie’s Home Furnishings and Mary Ross Custom Homes, who graciously volunteered her time and expertise to create an extraordinarily beautiful space that will be a home away from home for cancer survivors and their families.”
