Oak Ridge North will have a groundbreaking event Oct. 1 for its Plaza District, a $6 million project to bring a new commercial zone to the city.

Latest update

City Manager Heather Neeley announced at the Sept. 8 meeting the completion of the work needed to create the Plaza District. According to meeting materials, that involved the city's closing on two tracts of land that will clear the way to begin the project.

“I would like to take this moment to congratulate this council and city staff for the finalization and the closing of Track A and 1A,” Mayor Paul Bond said. “It's been a long, arduous journey.”

Looking back

The Plaza District commercial zone was established in 2013 for Town Center development, as previously reported by Community Impact.

As part of this, a realignment project was planned to address bottleneck traffic issues along the intersection of Robinson and Hanna roads, which—according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation—has seen steady annual average daily traffic growth along the roadway.

By the numbers

The Plaza District includes the following:
  • 18,780 square feet for retail shopping centers
  • 4,800 square feet for restaurants or small shops
  • 10,000 square feet for a new city hall
