Editor's note: This story was updated to clarify the name of the park master plan project.

Shenandoah officials provided an update on the city's current capital projects at the Feb. 26 City Council meeting.

The breakdown

The projects have been part of the city’s improvement plan from 2024 to 2035, as outlined on the city’s website.

The following projects are currently ongoing:
  • The Research Forest Drive and northbound Grogans Mill Road merge lane is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of this year.
  • Additional parking at the city’s Shenandoah Park is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
  • The park master plan is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of this year.
Digging deeper

The city is in the process of obtaining feedback for the park master plan project through a workshop held Feb. 20 where residents were invited to share thoughts on the future of Shenandoah's public spaces.

In addition, Shenandoah Public Works Director Joseph Peart said Feb. 26 that surveying for additional parking was completed.

What else

Peart presented possible additional signage for park locations, except for those at the city pool and Veteran’s Point, as they were previously discussed at the Feb. 12 meeting.

“Some of the conversation at the last meeting was that maybe we don’t want to limit hours at the Veteran’s Park because it’s in the middle of our walking trails system, which is different from our other parks,” Peart said.

The new park sign locations, which include hours and rules for the parks, are at:
  • Shenandoah Park
  • Toddler Park
  • Holly Hills Trails
  • Vehicle entrances
