Matt Beasley, Montgomery County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace, announced his resignation in an email to Montgomery County commissioners on Dec. 26 and said he will work for newly elected Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler.

In the letter, Beasley wrote his last day would be Jan. 1, and he will transition to his new role as chief of staff in the Precinct 3 Commissioner's Office on Jan. 2.

Beasley previously worked as the chief of staff for the Commissioner's Office under outgoing Commissioner James Noack prior to Beasley's election as justice of the peace in 2018.

"I want to thank the members of Commissioner's Court for their support over the years and the incredible court staff that make JP3 one of the best in the state. I look forward to continuing to serve the good people of Montgomery County," Beasley said in the email to commissioners.

Beasley's resignation comes with two years left in his term as justice of the peace, meaning Montgomery County Commissioners will have to make a decision on whether to appoint someone to the position or hold a special election to fill the unexpired term. The next meeting of the Montgomery County Commissioners Court is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 at 501 N. Thompson Street, Ste. 402, Conroe.
