The Woodlands Township board of directors voted on Dec. 4 to approve a $842,352 contract to renovate bathrooms in a number of parks across the township.

The breakdown

John McGowan, Director of Parks and Recreation for the township, said during the meeting there are 10 park restrooms which require renovations to fix aging infrastructure. The restrooms are located at:
  • Alden Bridge Park
  • Cattail Park
  • Grogan’s Point
  • Tamarac Park
  • Meadowlake Park
  • Cranebrook Park
  • Creekwood Park
  • Forestage Park
  • Harper's Landing
  • Lakeside Park
  • Ridgewood Park
  • Windvale Park
  • Falconwing Park
The project will involve renovating and replacing a number of fixtures and equipment, repairing ceilings and flooring, and repainting.

Quote of note

“On the [2022 Parks and] Needs Assessment, the number one comment was restroom upkeep and renovations,” McGowan said. “We don't want to shut every bathroom down in The Woodlands, even though we have 30 of them, total.”

The timeline

McGowan said each bathroom would take roughly three weeks to complete, starting in January, and work would be staggered to ensure all of the restrooms were not rendered unusable to the public at the same time.
