The Woodlands will continue to host the Ironman Texas triathlon through at least 2030, according to an agreement with the World Triathlon Corporation, approved by the township’s convention and visitors bureau, Visit The Woodlands, on Nov. 20.

The timeline

Visit the Woodlands agreed to extend the agreement previously at an Aug. 14 meeting. The fifth amendment to the host venue sponsorship agreement, which was approved Nov. 20, proposes the following dates for the Ironman event, as well as the Ironkids event for kids age 1-17, according to meeting materials.

  • April 11, 2026

"Ironman is a great economic driver for us; it attracts participants from all 50 states [and] 25 countries," said Nick Wolda, president of Visit The Woodlands. "I think one of the biggest elements about Ironman is our local participation in our residents who volunteer for this. Over 3,000 of our residents either participate or volunteer actively."


What's next?

Visit The Woodlands also approved an agreement with The Woodland Township to reserve parks, The Woodlands Waterway, Lake Woodlands and other areas for the event. The agreement was previously made between the township and the triathlon corporation, but it is now made through Visit The Woodlands, according to information from the meeting.

The Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas North American Championship will next take place on April 26. According to information from Ironman Texas, it offers qualifying slots to subsequent world championship events in Nice, France, and in Hawaii.
