Oak Ridge North City Council members approved offering half-price pool passes to residents following a three-week closure of the city pool from Hurricane Beryl.

What residents should know

During Hurricane Beryl, the city’s pool sustained damage to its filtration and generation system, which has caused the pool to remain closed since the storm moved through the area.

Public Works Director James Corn said the piece necessary to repair the pool has taken a significant amount of time to come in because the manufacturer is the only producer of the part needed to fix the system.

As a result, city officials approved providing existing city pool pass holders at half price for the 2025 pool season due to the extended closure.

Sarah McClure, director of economic development for the city, said the half-price pool passes would be the best option as opposed to refunding pool pass holders for the season.

“If we start refunding left and right, it's gonna be pretty detrimental [to the city],” McClure said.

Corn said the part is expected to be received by Aug. 2, and the pool should be up and running by mid- to late August, which coincides with the end of the pool season for the city.

The city also approved a payment to HdL Companies for sales tax collections discrepancies totaling $5,088. HdL was contracted by the city in early 2024 to find sales tax collection discrepancies and coordinate with the Texas Comptroller’s Office to ensure the city receives the correct amount of sales tax from businesses.
