New data released Dec. 7 by the U.S. Census Bureau shows The Woodlands, Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North have similar demographic trends from 2017 to 2022, with a majority of white residents.
Demographic information represents five-year estimates from the American Community Survey.
Since 2017, The Woodlands and Shenandoah saw increases in the number of Hispanic or Latino residents, while Oak Ridge North saw a decrease. Hispanic or Latino is not a race in the demographic breakdown. Among other statistics, The Woodlands saw fewer Black or African American residents in 2022 than in 2017, and Oak Ridge North reported the largest percentage of Black or African American residents among the three areas, with 10.2%.The five-year surveys also include information about educational attainment in each region.
All three areas saw an increase in the percentage of residents with bachelor's degrees between 2017 and 2022. The percentage of The Woodlands residents with a bachelor's degree or higher increased from 62.6% to 66.3% in that time period, but Shenandoah saw a steeper increase from 41% to 46.3%.
