The Woodlands Township board of directors on March 30 unanimously approved a draft resolution supporting Tomball ISD’s Plan B, one of two rezoning plans that will be considered by TISD in April to move students from an overcrowded school in the Creekside Park area to one with capacity.

According to TISD materials presented at a March 24 board of directors meeting, Creekview Elementary School is at 115% capacity, but moving some students to Timber Creek Elementary School east of Kuykendahl Road could reduce that to 100% capacity in the next school year if Plan A is followed, and to 103% if Plan B is followed.

TISD’s Plan A would send some students in Creekside Park west of Kuykendahl Road to Timber Creek Elementary School, while Plan B would not include those sections of Creekside Park. Several residents who spoke at the meeting as well as board members said Kuykendahl Road was too dangerous for students to cross, noting the community values walking and biking to school.

The Woodlands Township board also appointed directors Bob Milner and Ann Snyder as representatives in the event a task force could be formed between entities to determine a path going forward on improving crossing safety on Kuykendahl Road. Previously discussed solutions included a pedestrian walkway.

Bob Milner said a task force could consist of representatives from the board, Tomball ISD, developer The Howard Hughes Corp. and Harris County Precinct 4 to discuss effective ways to address the Kuykendahl Road intersection.

Vice Chair Bruce Rieser noted that TISD representatives had said another school is likely to be needed within five years in the area, forcing additional rezoning across Kuykendahl Road, but Plan B would give governing agencies time to plan for safety measures.

“We need to find a long-term solution,” Rieser said.
