Fort Bend ISD is expected to vote on secondary boundary changes in October, district officials said at an Aug. 31 board meeting.

Beth Martinez, deputy superintendent chief of staff, said the planning efforts focus on potential modifications to secondary school attendance boundaries to relieve overutilization at Austin, Elkins and Travis high schools and align feeder patterns to the extent possible.
District officials are considering multiple factors, including enrollment trends and transportation when looking at rezoning.
This comes after the district voted to close seven elementary schools earlier this year, Community Impact previously reported. However, district officials said no schools will close as part of the secondary boundary process.
A closer look
The draft plans—which were presented in August—include one scenario for middle school adjustments and two scenarios for high school adjustments.
The middle school scenario—which affects 694 students—changes elementary to middle school feeder patterns with Crockett, Hodges Bend, Garcia, First Colony, Fort Settlement, Baines, Coleman, Lake Olympia, Dulles and Sugar Land middle schools affected.
Meanwhile, the high schools patterns options differ on the relief for Elkins High School with the first option including sending a portion of students to Clements High School, while the second option includes rezoning Quail Valley Middle School to Dulles High School and part of Elkins High School to Clements High School.
That first option would impact approximately 1,050 students, while the second would impact 1,561 students, officials said.
Students in high school and going into eighth grade can choose to stay in their current campus if the boundary changes are approved, but the district would not provide transportation, Martinez said.
By the numbers
The district distributed an online survey to gather feedback from the community from Aug. 18 to Aug. 30 garnering 2,805 responses, Martinez said.
Dates to know
The district is working with the School Boundary Advisory Committee—a group of community members and parents—to make the final boundary recommendations to the board by Oct. 5, Martinez said.
