Several major events and fundraisers were held throughout The Woodlands area in the month of May.


Recent Highlights1. The Parati Competitive Rowing team in The Woodlands received 11 gold and silver medals during the U.S. Rowing Central Region Championships held May 6-7. In June, 22 rowers will race at the Youth Nationals competition in Florida.


2. During a May 16 board meeting, the Conroe ISD board of trustees honored Marine Corps Junior ROTC students from The Woodlands College Park High School. The group was named national champions at the inaugural Marine Corps JROTC National Championship in Irving, Texas, on April 22. Board President Melanie Bush presented cadet Brianna Robohn (center) with the team’s plaque during the meeting.


Recent Highlights3. Chance the Rapper (center), Grammy Award-winning artist and recent performer at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, posed with CWMP President and CEO Jerry MacDonald and Cameron Klepac, director of marketing and education, featuring the winning T-shirt design for the pavilion’s annual Musical Scores program. The educational outreach program was held May 18.


Recent Highlights4. More than 60 people participated in the Global 6K For Water event in The Woodlands on May 6 with the goal of helping children gain access to clean water. The event raised more than $2,500, which is enough to provide 50 children with clean water.


Recent Highlights5. Local nonprofit ASD Hope Inc., which was founded to provide educational resources to students with autism, hosted a fundraising reception at Dosey Doe Big Barn on May 8. The keynote speaker for the event, David Gottlieb, was the former head of the sociology department at the University of Houston and is a former chairman of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Gottlieb delivered remarks on the subject of children with autism in support of ASD Hope’s efforts in The Woodlands community.
