The move brings the event closer to Chevron's new corporate headquarters and downtown Houston, according to the news release. The event will take place April 23-26.
The context
The championship had moved to The Woodlands in 2023, Community Impact previously reported. The event was held at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at The Club at Carlton Woods.
"The Woodlands was proud to bring The Chevron Championship to Texas after 50 years in California, and we believe we provided an exceptional home for the tournament, highlighted by the beauty of our community and the world-class setting at The Club at Carlton Woods," said Brad Bailey, chair of The Woodlands Township board of directors and director of Visit The Woodlands.
"This came as a surprise to us," Bailey said. "We're not involved in the day-to-day negotiations ... [but] a lot goes into putting these tournaments on. I'm disappointed to see it leave, but Chevron maintains a valuable role in our community."
Chevron Philips Chemical opened a new headquarters space in The Woodlands in 2025 and celebrated 25 years in the community, Community Impact previously reported.
"While we're disappointed to see The Chevron Championship move after three successful years in The Woodlands, we understand that when Jim Crane and Houston Sports Authority step forward with significant incentives, it can be hard for Chevron and LPGA to turn down. The Woodlands is proud of the experience we delivered," Bailey said.
He said the township has reached out to the LPGA in conjunction with Carlton Woods to explore future possibilities.
"We have a unique model that really fits them," he said.
The Woodlands also hosts the Insperity Invitational as part of the PGA Tour, which will take place this year May 4-10, according to Visit The Woodlands, the township's convention and visitors bureau.
Another detail
Memorial Park Golf Course and facilities previously underwent a $34 million renovation, funded in part through the Astros Golf Foundation, according to the news release. The foundation was created by Astros owner Jim Crane in 2018 to bring the Houston Open, a PGA Tour event, into the city, according to the release.
Memorial Park is also home to the Chevron Center for Education and Golf, which uses the game of golf to introduce young people to science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts, according to the news release.
What they're saying
“The Chevron Championship’s move to Memorial Park Golf Course demonstrates our continued commitment to growing the game of women’s golf and expanding our presence in the City of Houston,” said Laura Lane, Chevron's chief corporate affairs officer. “For more than a century, Houston has been central to Chevron’s story. Collaborating with Memorial Park allows us to honor that legacy while advancing our commitment to women’s golf and giving back to the community.”
“Chevron’s partnership continues to set a standard for what it means to invest in women’s golf—not just as a championship, but as a platform to inspire and grow the game,” LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler said. “Moving The Chevron Championship to Memorial Park Golf Course strengthens that vision. It brings the event closer to the heart of Houston, connecting more fans and communities to our athletes, and helping ensure this major—a tradition that began in 1972—continues to shine as one of the game’s most meaningful stages.”
“Houston is proud to deepen our partnership with Chevron by welcoming The Chevron Championship to Memorial Park. This move celebrates our shared sports legacy while showcasing the city’s bright future,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said. “Bringing this world-class event to Houston strengthens our position as a premier sports destination and creates opportunities to inspire the next generation through the game of golf.”
