United Way of Greater Houston will hold its annual Women Who Rock event this year at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center to help fund scholarships for child care for young parents seeking to extend their education beyond the high school level. In addition to the scholarship, recipients receive employment coaching through the United Way and through The Women's Resource.

According to United Way of Greater Houston, the scholarship program has helped more than 100 people with post-secondary education, including 22 who have graduated.

The scholarship helps recipients with child care costs while they pursue bachelor's degrees, associate degrees or professional certifications, according to the United Way.

Recipients are between the ages of 16 and 25, have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, have a high school diploma and meet several other qualifications, according to a news release.

The scholarships were first available in Montgomery County in 2009, according to a news release.

This year's event includes keynote speaker Retha Nichole, a business and life coach, speaking on the theme "One Woman Can Make a Difference, Together We Can Rock the World."

The event is from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. March 4 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, 1601 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands. For information about tickets and scholarships, visit www.unitedwayhouston.org/rock.
