Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North will not see contested City Council elections this year, as only incumbents in each city signed up to run for re-election to their positions.

What you need to know

A total of six City Council positions across the two cities were available on the May 3 ballot, and individuals had until Feb. 14 to file, which is the state's deadline. Here are the incumbents who filed in each city:

Oak Ridge North
  • City Council, Place 2: Holly McClaren
  • City Council, Place 4: Heather Smoot
  • City Council, Place 5: Frances Planchard
Shenandoah
  • City Council, Place 2: Joe Summerlin Jr.
  • City Council, Place 3: Jim Pollard
  • City Council, Place 4: Charlie Bradt
Because no challengers filed for the positions, each city will have the option to cancel the May 3 elections for those seats.

What else?

While the cities of Oak Ridge North and Shenandoah do not have any issues on the ballot, Montgomery County voters will still have an item to consider at the ballot box. County commissioners agreed on Feb. 11 to put a $480 million road bond referendum on the May 3 ballot, which will go towards funding a number of road improvement projects across the county.
