Former LTISD Superintendent Paul Norton’s letter of resignation was approved during a special board meeting Feb. 7, as reported by Community Impact. Norton was placed on administrative leave Dec. 17 following allegations of misconduct, Community Impact reported.
What to know
Null has served as CISD’s superintendent since June 2018. He began his career with the district in 2000, in roles such as assistant superintendent, principal and assistant principal, teacher, and athletic trainer. Before he was named superintendent, he became deputy superintendent in January 2016.
“CISD will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve here," Null said in a statement. "I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and hard work demonstrated by our students, teachers and staff each and every day. I have worked with amazing people that have helped me learn and grow daily, and I know the friendships I have made here will last a lifetime. I am proud that our team has navigated the tremendous financial challenges tied to school district funding and made great strides towards a healthy fund balance that will enable the district to provide future compensation increases the CISD employees deserve while continuing to provide world class opportunities for students."
Under Null, the voters approved its 2023 bond totaling more than $1.8 billion for new schools, renovations, technology, physical education classrooms and gyms, among other projects. A $650 million bond was also passed in 2019 for more than $650 million.
“During his tenure at the helm of the seventh largest district in the state of Texas, he compassionately and boldly led the 73,000-student and 12,000-employee CISD family through challenges such as the pandemic, hurricanes, winter storms, social unrest,” CISD stated in a press release.
What’s next
After a 21-day waiting period, the LTISD board of trustees will take a vote on naming Null superintendent.
CISD did not immediately release information about Null's last day in the district pending LTISD's formal appointment of Null. This story will be updated as additional information becomes available.
