Two out of three Tomball ISD board of trustees positions will be filled by a newcomer after the incumbent did not file for reelection in November, according to candidate filings posted on the district’s website.

The overview

TISD trustees Matt Schiel and Lee McLeod—who hold positions 5 and 7, respectively—did not file to run for reelection on Nov. 5, according to candidate filings. Those running for their spots are:
  • Amanda Bass and Joseph Ferguson will compete for Position 5
  • Brandon C. Batchelor, John Payne and Coco White will vie for Position 7
Board Vice President Justin Unser, who holds Position 6, did file for reelection and will face challenger Jennifer Kratky, according to the candidate filing.

The deadline to file to run was Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. while July 20 was the first day candidates could file.

Schiel was first elected to TISD’s board in 2016 while McLeod was elected one year later, and Unser began serving in 2019, according to TISD’s website. The other trustee positions—Positions 1, 2, 3 and 4—will be up for election on Nov. 3, 2026.

According to TISD’s website, the district’s trustees serve four-year terms, and requirements to serve include that candidates must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old
  • Be a registered voter in their school district
  • Live in their district for at least six months and live in Texas for at least 12 months
  • Not have been convicted of a felony “from which the person has not been pardoned”
