At its first regular board meeting of the year on Jan. 17, the Conroe ISD board of trustees is set to discuss topics that include new attendance zones for the Grand Oaks High School feeder and the removal of a library book.

The trustees will hear an appeal regarding the book, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," and determine whether the book fits the criteria for removal from CISD libraries. At previous board meetings, parents have brought forth concerns about the book, saying it contains sexually explicit material that violates the state’s law pertaining to distribution of harmful material to a minor.

In August, the board passed a policy for a revised library book review process to review books that parents flag as concerning.

The board will also review a trustee’s request to be a standing member of all book recommendation committees.

Elementary and intermediate school attendance zones for the Grand Oaks feeder will also be finalized at the meeting. The district’s attendance boundary committee presented initial rezoning plans at the board’s December meeting.

The board is also set to adopt the school calendar for the 2023-24 school year and officially approve the 2023 bond planning committee in anticipation of the board calling a bond for the November election.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the CISD Administration Building at 3205 W. Davis St., Conroe, and will be livestreamed on the district's website.
