Conroe ISD announced in a June 6 news release the opening of a virtual campus for district students grade five through eight in the 2022-23 academic year.

The Conroe ISD Virtual School will be taught by full-time virtual teachers, according to the release.

Families with students wishing to attend can complete an application, according to the district.


Community Impact Newspaper previously reported the passing of Senate Bill 15 by the Texas Legislature in 2021 opened the option for Texas school districts to create one year of a virtual or hybrid school in 2022-23,

According to the
virtual school website, CISD has decided to move forward with the option. In accordance with SB 15, the virtual campus number will expire Sept. 1, 2023. At that time new legislation would be required to continue virtual education, but the Virtual School could be grandfathered into future programs, according to the district.



Students who are accepted into the Virtual School will be required to follow a participation agreement, according to the school home page. This agreement includes adherence to the school handbook, equipment return and the maintenance of 90% attendance. The school will not provide bilingual education, and some special education services will remain in-person only, according to the district

Canvas software will be utilized and available in both English and Spanish. Parents can view access videos as well as instructional expectations on the Virtual School website, according to the district.
