At a special meeting of the Conroe ISD board of trustees held April 5, the board unanimously approved a 2022-23 employee pay plan presented at a workshop held earlier that afternoon. The plan includes a $1,500 pay increase for teachers, a 2% increase for nonteachers and starting pay for hourly employees beginning at $13 per hour as well as a new teacher starting salary of $60,000.

The board workshop included a presentation by Jennifer Barton, a representative of the Texas Association of School Boards. TASB compared CISD’s current pay plans and made recommendations, including adopting a general pay increase and monitoring its compensation plans to remain competitive.

She said the district is “very competitive” within its group for teacher pay. In the present school year, teachers’ salaries in CISD are $700 above the local market median of $58,500.

Among the group of school districts used for comparison in the region are Aldine, Cy-Fair, Klein, Montgomery, New Caney, Spring and Tomball ISDs.

District officials said the new pay plan will emphasize strong starting salaries, midpoint salaries in line with the market and increasing starting rates for nonexempt employees.

A CISD job fair is scheduled from 9 a.m.-noon April 9 at Grand Oak High School, 4800 Riley Fuzzel Road, Spring.
