Conroe ISD Superintendent Curtis Null announced the district has entered COVID-19 threat level four during a virtual update on Aug. 20.

For the week ending on Aug. 20, there were 670 positive student cases reported. In 2020, the week with the highest recorded number of positive student cases reached 390.

Null asked students to wear masks and practice of personal responsibility.

“Regardless of your previous decision that you’ve made regarding masks, or those of you that have potentially said [you will] wear one when the time is really needed, I’m telling you that now is the time that it’s really needed,” Null said during the virtual update.

Threat level four includes increasing cleaning routines, limiting visitors, postponing events, limiting in-person meetings and increasing testing efforts.

CISD is hosting a free, pop-up testing site on Aug. 21 for students and employees.

“This swift action is necessary because moving to level five is catastrophic,” Null said. “Level five involves the closure of school.”

CISD will not have a virtual academy option for students during the 2021-22 school year because funding for virtual schooling was not approved during the regular session of the state Legislature this year.

Null said if the district closes, student hours will be made up by increasing school hours, removing holidays or adding days to the school calendar.

“We can do this. As a community, we have proven it,” Null said. “We proved last year that we could be successful and I know that we can do that again this year."
