Lone Star College-Montgomery students will be able pursue a career in the clouds at the campus's Conroe Center due to a finalized partnership with the U.S. Aviation Academy of Denton. The LSC professional pilot program will consist of an Associate of Applied Science in professional pilot degree, which is designed to prepare individuals for a career as a commercial pilot, according to a press release. Students will take general education courses and earn private, commercial and flight instruction certifications in addition to instrument and multiengine ratings. Students will receive classroom and simulator training at LSC-Conroe Center, and flight instruction will be held at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport. "We are very excited to partner with USAG for flight training,” LSC-Montgomery President Rebecca Riley said. “USAG has an excellent track record of producing skilled, safe professional pilots with successful careers in the aviation industry. There is currently a shortage of airline pilots in the United States and abroad. The shortage is growing every year, creating an excellent job market for students who earn the AAS degree and continue building flight hours while completing a bachelor’s degree through one of our transfer partners." Community Impact Newspaper reported the college had been pursuing the program in 2018 with the hopes of having it ready to go for the spring 2019 semester.
