As the fall semester comes to an end, local school districts are already beginning to look forward to the 2019-20 school year. Conroe ISD, for example, is seeking public input on two drafts of the 2019-20 school calendar.

At the Nov. 13 board of trustees meeting, Deputy Superintendent Chris Hines asked trustees for feedback on the 2019-20 academic calendar. In previous calendars, the public has been in favor of starting mid-week and being able to finish school in May, Hines said.

On Nov. 26, CISD released two calendar drafts on the district website.

Both calendar drafts feature Aug. 14 as the first day of school, May 28 as the last day of school and two inclement weather days. Both drafts also include five days off for the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 25-29 and a five-day spring break March 16-20, as well as one-day holidays for Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day.

However, Draft 1 has 178 school days for students, while Draft 2 has 177; the winter break changes by a day, and Draft 2 also has varying staff development days.

Feedback for the calendar drafts can be submitted through Jan. 7 via the district’s website. CISD’s District-Level Planning and Decision-Making Committee will review the feedback and make a recommendation to the board of trustees at the Jan. 15 meeting.
