During Conroe ISD's monthly board meeting Tuesday, several individuals received recognition, and proposed school mascots and colors were presented for three schools.
1) School colors and mascots were suggested for Grand Oaks High School, York Junior High School and Lucille J. Bradley Elementary School.
Future Grand Oaks High School students were in favor of the Grizzlies as a school mascot and having royal blue, orange and gray as their colors. The new high school will open for the 2018-19 school year.
York Junior High School students—currently known as the Eagles because they feed into Oak Ridge High School with the War Eagle mascot—want to be known as the Grizzlies and work orange into their royal blue and white color scheme to match their new feeder school, Grand Oaks High School.
Future Bradley Elementary School students were most in favor of having a bear as their mascot with blue and gray school colors. The district is expected to make a final decision regarding the school colors and mascots during its May meeting.
2) Principals were named to two schools in the district.
Krista McWilliams, current assistant principal at Reaves Elementary School, was named principal of San Jacinto Elementary School.
Jeff Stichler, current principal at Moorhead Junior High School, was named principal of Caney Creek High School. Stichler will take over for current CCHS Principal Patricia McClure.
3) Two powerlifters and CISD’s fine arts department were recognized for recently winning awards.
The Woodlands High School powerlifter Gavin Webster is the new state champion for Division I Boys’ 148-pound weight class. Conroe High School powerlifter Roy Kelley is the new state champion for Division I Boys’ 198-pound weight class.
Additionally, CISD’s fine arts department was recognized as the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation’s best community for music.
