After spending 30 years in the oil and gas industry making numerous trips to New York City—often grabbing a bagel and a cup of coffee and walking around Manhattan—Kurt Crowley said he wanted to bring that experience to Texas.

“If we could bring a great bagel shop to The Woodlands, [we] believed it would do well,” he said.

In November 2021, a year and a half after retiring from his executive position, Crowley opened Fuhgedaboudit Bagel Co.

“The Woodlands has embraced us over the last seven months,” Crowley said. Taste of New York

Crowley said when opening Fuhgedaboudit Bagel Co., it was important to bring the fun, energy and flavors of a New York City bagel shop.

When a customer comes in, Crowley said they can smell the fresh-baked bagels when they enter.

“That smell is very enticing,” Crowley said. “We do not sell day-old products.”

The menu consists of bagel sandwiches, bagel dogs and “Brooklyn bites,” which are baked with cream cheese inside of them. A variety of flavored schmears, or cream cheese, is available for purchase.

“If they are new to bagels, ... I would recommend they get a single bagel sliced and toasted with their choice of schmear,” Crowley said. “What we want people to experience is a crispy exterior and chewy center.”

Bagel sandwiches are available for lunch, such as The Chairman, which includes smoked salmon, or the Dean-O, which is Fuhgedaboudit Bagel Co.’s take on a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.

There are also premium bagels, such as the rosemary and olive oil or the jalapeno and cheddar, available for an extra charge.

More to come

By late August, Crowley said he wants to offer specialty coffees with a trained barista on staff.

The bagel shop is also looking to add seasonal schmears in the coming months along with additional bagel flavors and baked goods.

Crowley added he and his staff are grateful for the reception The Woodlands has given them, especially as a first-time restaurant owner.

“I am a local boy; I grew up here. ... To see this community flourish and to be a part of that as a business owner is really exciting for me and my family,” he said.
