The Badeaux family opened Logan Farms Honey Glazed Hams & Market Cafe, a franchise, in July 2015 and have since become a staple for area families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
Scott Badeaux said his parents and owners of the cafe, Jerry and Laurna Badeux, are originally from New Orleans and opened the business on Sawdust Road after Jerry became a regular customer at another Houston location of the eatery.
“We opened the store as part of the franchise since Logan Farms has three in Houston,” Badeaux said. “A year and a half ago, my dad was a regular customer at one of the Houston stores. He inquired about doing a franchise in The Woodlands, and it all came together from there. We’ve seen a really good [customer base] since opening here last year, and last Christmas and Thanksgiving seasons, we did pretty well.”
Badeaux said the upcoming holiday season is expected to be a big one for the eatery as well. Ham and turkey orders have already been submitted by corporate companies.
Logan Farms offers a variety of fresh ham, turkey, ribs and beef, along with a lunch menu that Badeaux said has a New Orleans twist. Meats and produce all come from local suppliers; however, the restaurant’s French bread is purchased from New Orleans-based Leidenheimer Baking Co.
“We’re unique because have a New Orleans flair to our menu, like red beans and rice, and chicken and sausage gumbo,” he said. “We’re from there so we try to make it more geared to New Orleans.”
Badeaux said the most popular sandwich on the menu is the pesto Cuban sandwich, which is made with shaved pork roast, sliced honey ham, Swiss cheese, chipotle mayonnaise, pesto sauce and a kosher pickle on grilled French bread. Other house specialties on the lunch menu include the spicy chicken sandwich, the tuna melt and the classic club.
Fresh smoked ham and turkey are also popular during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Badeaux said the 8-pound spiral sliced ham is a popular choice during the Christmas season. At Thanksgiving, the two most popular gourmet meats that are ordered at the eatery include smoked turkey and Cajun turkey.
Customers are also able to make reservations for their ham or turkey breast orders, while briskets, steaks and ribs do not require a reservation. Online orders can be made as well for gourmet meats at the eatery.
For customers who want to order more than gourmet meats for the holidays, catering services are also offered by Logan Farms for parties and events.
“We have a good catering business,” Badeaux said. “It’s a full service for clients who want to order lunches or dinner with hot trays. The catering menu also has a variety of stuff. It’s some New Orleans-based foods and then some homecooked Southern foods like meatloaf.”
As far as expanding their services to a dinner menu or new location, Badeaux said his family will stay with a lunch menu at their existing location for now but could expand in the future.
“We’re not looking to expand right now since we’ve only been open a year,” he said. We could maybe be looking at it in the future. We’d need to expand the selection for dinner. But we haven’t given much thought to it as of yet.”
