Ever since Chip Jackson opened Rolland’s Gastropub in August, it has become a place to go for house-infused cocktails, high-quality food and live music.
General Manager John Michael said Rolland’s Gastropub, located off Rayford Road, took over Crescent Moon Wine Bar after Jackson liked the facility and saw an opportunity to buy it. Michael said Jackson, who is also the owner of nearby Tewbeleaux’s Sports Bar & Grill, created a completely new concept and menu with the gastropub.
“We’re unique because of our craft cocktails, and you are also going to get five-star quality food in a casual setting,” Michael said. “We’re a whole different concept from Tewbeleaux’s—we’re definitely not a sports bar.”
The menu at Rolland’s features a variety of food, such as petit plates that are meant to be shared, Tuscan and field salads, Italian and meat lovers pizzas, an Angus burger and entrees that include chicken Marsala, pork chops and scallops. Customers can also order craft beer, infused cocktails or a glass of wine from Rolland’s wine list.
“As a gastropub, there’s a food concept,” Michael said. “We’re very original with our [menu]. The chef and I were excited to do something different at this location. We also wanted cool cocktail infusions—it’s what we envisioned for the menu.”
Michael said live music by local bands is also a key aspect of the gastropub, with live performances taking place Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Happy hour, which is from 3-7 p.m. daily, is also a prominent feature of Rolland’s.
“Happy hour is key for this place, we really want to build a happy hour-type business,” Michael said. “We’d definitely like to see the old clients from Crescent Moon Wine Bar give us a shot, and I expect we’ll get more customers here in the future.”
Happy hour offerings at Rolland’s include $5 pizzas, $5 infusions and $5 select small plates.
As far as opening another Rolland’s location in the future, Michael said the notion is a possibility.
“It’s possible; we’d have to see how we do here first,” he said. “I think people should come down here and give us a shot. Everything here is great.”
