Construction on a new YMCA in the Falls at Imperial Oaks subdivision, close to the Grand Parkway, is slated to begin in 2018.

Approximately $13 million will be needed to complete construction, said Heather Saucier, director of media relations for the YMCA of Greater Houston. Currently, there is not an estimated completion date for the new location.

The facility will be built on a 10-acre tract of land that was donated by 830 Investors Ltd., which is the Holcomb family’s partnership. 

“A YMCA is vital to this growing area,” said Jim Holcomb, director of 830 Investors Ltd. “It will provide thousands of young people and families a safe and nurturing place to play, learn and grow. By giving families access to programs that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA will make this community even stronger.”

The Holcomb Family YMCA will serve portions of Conroe ISD and the Spring area on the east side of I-45 in south Montgomery County.

The U.S. Census Bureau has ranked Montgomery County as the 13th fastest-growing county in the nation, and CISD is expecting enrollment to increase by about 8,000 students in the next five years, Saucier said.

“The population of southeast Montgomery County in particular is burgeoning, and we want to meet the needs of new individuals and families coming into the area,” said Paul McEntire, president and CEO of The YMCA of Greater Houston. “We are committed to improving quality of life by offering programs that foster academic achievement and focus on drowning prevention and healthy living.”

The Holcomb Family YMCA will host a variety of programs when it opens, such as after-school care, day camps, swimming lessons, teen achievement groups, drowning prevention classes and personal wellness training.
