Work has begun on a multimillion dollar expansion and renovation at The Woodlands Country Club Palmer Course.

The facility, owned by ClubCorp, will see an all new private events center, dining area, bar and lounge and fitness center. Improvements to its patio area will be included as well.

Morgan Gonzales, general manager for The Woodlands Country Club, said construction on the new private events center could be complete by the end of the year.

“As part of The Woodlands community, we feel [the renovations] will really solidify our position in the community,” he said.

Gonzales said renovations to the club’s dining and bar facilities would also be finished by the end of the year. In the current configuration, the club’s dining facilities double as a private events room, forcing the club’s members out of the dining area while the room is in use for other events.

The Palmer Course facility also just saw the completion May 1 of new resort-style swimming pool amenities that include a new poolside bar, private cabanas and a shaded toddler swimming area.

The Woodlands Country Club includes the 18-hole tournament course, former site of the Shell Houston Open, the Palmer Course, designed by Arnold Palmer, and the Player Course, designed by Gary Player, as well as several tennis courts and fitness centers. The country club has about 2,000 members.
