Montgomery County added 59 new active COVID-19 cases June 23 to reach a record high of 678 total active cases, the county public health district and emergency management office reported.

The county has added 90 total new cases since June 22. Thirty-one new recoveries were also added, bringing the total recovery count to 1,025, or around 59% of total confirmed cases.

The 90 new cases were the county's second-highest added in a single day, behind the 92 cases added June 22. The county's rolling seven-day new case average also reached its highest mark yet June 23 and has continued to steadily increase since late May.

Sixteen county residents remain hospitalized due to COVID-19, county officials said. Eighty-eight total COVID-19 patients—including residents of other counties being treated in Montgomery County—remain hospitalized within the county, according to the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council. Of those, 64 occupy general beds, and 24 are in an ICU.
