As a part of the “Name a Park” initiative by The Woodlands Development Company and Interfaith of The Woodlands, a park in Creekside Park was dedicated in late June honoring late Woodlands resident, Sooki Park. Born in South Korea, Park served as a nurse in a cancer treatment facility in South Korea and was later named president of the Korean Nursing Association. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1980 where she continued her nursing career at Pinewood Medical Clinic in The Woodlands area. Park was also a founding member of Woodlands Christ’s Church—now International Christ’s Fellowship—which holds services at Interfaith of The Woodlands.
Park died in 2007 of lung cancer. Park’s daughter, Dr. Ashley Chin and son-in-law Steve, along with their daughters, gathered for the dedication. “We are grateful that a park in the wonderful community of The Woodlands bears her name and will be a place for people to come, enjoy and heal,” the family said in a statement. Other recent dedications include Jamaluddin Way in the Village of Sterling Ridge and Dr. Ann Snyder Drive in the Village of Creekside Park. The “Name a Park” and “Name a Street” initiatives are a partnership between the Development Company and Interfaith of The Woodlands. During the annual The Woodlands Celebration of Excellence event, attendees are able to bid on these items during the live auction portion, benefiting Interfaith programs. This year’s event will be held Oct. 7 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center. For more information, visit www.woodlandsinterfaith.org/gala.
