The Shenandoah Civic Club announced via
Facebook on Oct. 3 that it is now seeking young Shenandoah residents, age 13 or older, to join Young Shenandoans, a new division of the civic club.
The Shenandoah Civic Club, formed in 2008, works to promote community pride organizing volunteers to support existing projects and events, planning new programs and developing service projects benefiting Shenandoah residents. The civic club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Shenandoah Municipal Complex.
According to the post, Young Shenandoans will allow parents and teens to volunteer side-by-side while learning what it takes to plan and serve at events and take photos while promoting community involvement and building leadership skills.
"The women in the Shenandoah Civic Club have a heart for drawing people together and making [others] feel special—they truly make our community what it is today," Shenandoah Civic Club member Ritzy Fletcher said. "We talked about how we could continue this legacy for our community, and we knew the answer was our youth."
The first Young Shenandoans meeting with the Shenandoah Civic Club will be Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the executive conference room of the Shenandoah Municipal Complex, 29955 I-45 S., Shenandoah. The organization’s next event to plan will the Lighting of the Angels on Nov. 27, followed by the Christmas Eve luminaries and possible Santa Claus visits in December.
"Right now, we have the perfect training team to mentor and build relationships with our youth to become leaders of tomorrow's community," Fletcher said. "We are all eager to get this new program started."
