Contracts were awarded for two road widening projects in Montgomery County Precinct 3 during the Montgomery County Commissioners Court meeting July 10.

The Birnham Woods Drive project will widen Birnham Woods Drive from two to four lanes from just north of Fuller Bluff Drive to Elan Boulevard, according to an announcement from Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack's office.

The Elan Boulevard project will widen Elan Boulevard from two to four lanes from Adline Westfield Road to Birnham Woods Drive. It will also widen Aldine Westfield Road from two to four lanes from Elan Boulevard through Knoll Oaks Lane. A traffic signal will be added at the intersection of Elan Boulevard and Aldine Westfield Road.

“These two projects are important for our office to get started as soon as possible,” Noack said in a statement. “The east side of Precinct 3 is one of the fastest-growing areas in the county, and we must stay ahead of the curve to make sure mobility for those residents remains safe and easy.”

According to Montgomery County Precinct 3, both projects were identified in the South Montgomery County Mobility study, which was conducted by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and released in 2015, as high-priority needs.

The commissioners selected Angel Brothers as the contractor for both projects, during Tuesday’s commissioners court meeting. Angel Brothers previously completed the widening of Birnham Woods Drive from Waterbend Cove to Fuller Bluff Drive.

The two projects are estimated to cost a combined $4.5 million and will be funded through the 2015 road bond referendum. Construction on both projects is expected to begin in August and will take roughly one year to complete, according to Precinct 3 officials.
