The Shenandoah City Council unanimously accepted the resignation of Shenandoah City Administrator Greg Smith, during the regular city council meeting Aug. 23.

Smith’s resignation will become effective Aug. 31. The council unanimously approved his severance package and appointed City Secretary Kathie Reyer as Interim City Administrator.

Smith served as Shenandoah’s City Administrator for the past eight years.

“[I would just like to say] simply thanks to all the residents, current council, previous council and all the employees that we’ve worked with during my eight years here,” Smith said. “This is a great city, it’s going to stay a great city and I wish everybody the best.”

During the meeting, it was also mentioned that Jennifer Calvert, city finance director and Convention and Visitor’s Center director would also be resigning from her position effective Oct. 2.

Eight residents, including former council members Gary Henderson, John Houston and Darrell Frazier spoke during the second citizen’s forum to thank Smith and Calvert for their service to the city.

“Greg, you’ve got a great footprint,” Frazier said. “What you have left here and are leaving here in this city, people will see probably forever. You’re the only person I've ever hired in my life and I’m happy I did. The gratitude of many of my neighbors and the residents around this community go far beyond these walls.”
