The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau is exploring the possibility of beginning a patriotic summer light display on the Lake Robbins bridge that would be visible to thousands of drivers traveling on I-45.
The CVB’s board of directors voted last week to issue a request for proposal for services related to structural lighting and design for a patriotic display on the bridge to gauge the cost and timeline. Ideally, the display would begin on Flag Day in mid-June and last through the Fourth of July, CVB president Nick Wolda said.
CVB board chairman Bruce Rieser said he saw the idea in concept a few weeks ago and loved it. However, it is unclear whether the project could be carried out in time for summer 2017.
“I've tasked Nick with going out and seeing how prohibitively expensive this is so we can say 'no,' or we get surprised and we can actually do it," Rieser said. "I think it’s incredibly striking, and I think it’s something that would attract people to the area and The [Woodlands] Waterway if we did it."
Companies can submit requests for proposals, or RFPs, to The Woodlands CVB until May 8.
