Here are the three major things that were established at last night’s meeting:
1. Paul Bond's oath of office
Paul Bond officially replaced Tom Coale's Place 1 position on the Oak Ridge North City Council on Monday. Former Council Member Tom Coale announced his resignation from his position on City Council on Jan. 9, citing personal commitments and time constraints. Oak Ridge North City Council officially accepted the resignation at its January 23 regular council meeting.
2. Robinson Road commercial zoning
Oak Ridge North City Council members unanimously decided at a City Council meeting in September that the Planning and Zoning committee should continue moving forward with working with citizens who want to rezone their homes on Robinson Road from commercial to residential zoning.
Residents have told P&Z committee members they want the proposed zoning change to include an option to sell their homes in the future, or to convert their homes into a business. If the commercial zoning request goes through, homes could be transformed into businesses rather than strip centers.
City Manager Vicky Rudy said at Monday night's meeting the P&Z committee has seen a draft ordinance for commercial zoning and it has been well-received. The next step is to sort out minor tweaks in the ordinance and then take it back to residents.
"This includes input of Robinson Road residents," Rudy said. "The next step we feel like we have to have is a special invite to Wickwood [Drive] residents to alleviate any of their concerns of commercial zoning on Robinson Road. Its a clean and simple ordinance and it took a lot of talking and a lot of work. I think residents on Wickwood will understand it."
The P&Z committee is expected to bring the ordinance back to City Council members in May as well as hold a public hearing for residents.
3. Woodlands Parkway overpass project
Rudy said the city is still in correspondence with Montgomery County Precinct 3 officials to talk about the proposed Woodlands Parkway overpass project and its relation to Robinson Road and Patsy Lane.
"We sent an email to county commissioner [James Noack] reminding them about the turn lane onto Robinson Road and signalization," Rudy said. "Also, the Robinson Road alignment needs to be coordinated together to get through that intersection so we reminded them to take that into consideration as time goes on."
