If you are planning to vote in Montgomery County on Election Day, Nov. 8, here are 7 helpful tips to keep in mind. 1. Check your voter eligibility. Before planning to vote, make sure you are registered and eligible to participate. To check your eligibility, visit www.mctx.org/election/vrlookup.asp. To be eligible to vote in the Montgomery County election, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Montgomery County, at least 18 years old, not a convicted felon, not considered mentally incapacitated by a final judgment of a court, and have registered to vote by Oct. 11. If you are not listed as an eligible voter and feel it is an error, call Election Central at 936-539-7843. 2. Find your polling location. On Election Day, voters are required to vote at their respective polling locations. All polling locations are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 8. For a complete list of Montgomery County polling locations, visit www.mctx.org/election/EDPolls.asp?ELID=51. 3. Drop off your children. The YMCA of Greater Houston will offer two free hours of childcare for children between ages 6 months to 11 years old on Election Day to make voting for parents easier. Parents who are not YMCA members should allow 30 minutes to complete the registration and check-in process. To find your participating YMCA’s hours or to register your child, call 281-367-9622 or visit www.ymcahouston.org. 4. Bring a form of identification. If you have lost your voter registration card, you can still vote by presenting proof of identity at the polling location and signing an affidavit. To be issued a replacement certificate, notify the Election Administrator’s office in writing. 5. Follow voting etiquette. At the polling location, Election Day volunteers will ask voters to turn off their cell phones before entering the polling location. Make sure to follow this rule and do not try to take “selfies.” Voters should also not wear campaign-related clothing as this is considered a form of campaigning at the polling location. 6. Show off your civic duty. Using the hash tag #MontgomeryCountyVotes and snap a photo of your "I Voted" sticker after leaving your polling location and post it on social media. 7. Follow Community Impact Newspaper for live election results. Your local edition of Community Impact Newspaper will be covering the elections that matter most to you around the clock on Nov. 8. Make sure to follow along on Facebook, Twitter and on www.communityimpact.com for updates throughout the evening.
