Shenandoah City Council made several announcements at a regular workshop meeting Wednesday night related to local retailers, the NCAA Division III championships and future town hall meetings. If you missed the meeting, here are some highlights from the evening:
  • City Administrator Greg Smith announced that Nordstrom Rack is officially coming to Portofino Shopping Center into the space occupied by Lifeway Bookstore. No construction timeline for the project had been set as of press time.
  • Shenandoah’s fall town hall meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 2 with possible discussion topics including an update on the fiber-to-home project, electrical utilities and the city’s charter committee. A spring town hall meeting was tentatively set for 6 p.m. April 5.
  • The council discussed with Police Chief Raymond Shaw necessary security in the Portofino Shopping Center prior to and during the PGA Tour Superstore grand opening on Nov. 12. The store will be giving away grand opening merchandise and is expecting customers to camp out as early as 48 hours in advance.
  • Council announced that this year’s NCAA Division III banquet will take place at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion ice rink facility as the option was significantly cheaper than renting a tent, as had been done in prior years. The city will not be notified about future NCAA Division III events until spring 2017, due to delays from the NCAA.
  • Mayor Ritch Wheeler and Council Member Ron Raymaker were appointed to represent Shenandoah at the Houston-Galveston Area Council 2017 General Assembly.
