The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau is considering the sale of its waterway cruisers.
The CVB issued a request for expressions of interest in mid-November to gain input from private contractors and service providers that may be interested in operating and maintaining the cruisers. It has the option of selling one to six of the 35-foot commercial passenger boats that have operated along The Woodlands Waterway since 2010.
“Part of what we think [the CVB] needs in the toolbox is reaching out to see what entrepreneurs want to take over the waterway cruiser operation,” said Barry Goodman, president of the Goodman Corporation. “We have drafted a request for expressions of interest, and we would solicit that by various means.”
The Woodlands Township board of directors voted in August to cease funding for the operation of the cruisers, leaving the future of the program in the hands of the CVB board. During the Nov. 4 CVB meeting, the board opted to limit the operational hours of the cruisers through March 31 until a determination is made regarding the future of the boats.
“By reducing the hours immediately, we can save some funding to help with the operations for the first quarter,” CVB chairman Gordy Bunch said.
