National retail shopping chain Walmart announced a series of store renovations across the Greater Houston region in an April 23 news release.

The big picture

Walmart officials announced nearly 650 stores nationwide were selected for major renovations in 2025, with 67 of those stores within Texas and eight in the Greater Houston region.

"Our stores often serve as the heartbeat of the communities we operate in, and these remodels are a testament to our dedication to enhancing that role," said Paul Lewellen, senior vice president of Southwest Business Unit Operations. “By investing in our stores and associates, we are not only improving the shopping experience but also reinforcing our commitment to being a vital part of the community’s fabric, helping to build a brighter future for all.”

According to the release, the renovations will include:
  • Expanding store capacity
  • Creating additional online pickup and delivery areas
  • Constructing private pharmacy screening rooms and checkout areas
  • Redesigning signage and branding
The renovations will impact locations in The Woodlands, Tomball, Baytown, Katy and Humble.


What else?

Aside from the renovations, Walmart will also open a new 203,790-square-foot store in Cypress on April 30. According to prior Community Impact reporting, the new store will have a full grocery offering; online pickup and delivery operations; apparel, baby, home and pet departments; a pharmacy with a drive-thru; a vision center; and an auto care center.

  • 8700 N. Hwy. 146, Baytown
  • 3800 W. Walker St. League City
  • 9025 Spencer Highway, Deer Park
  • 26824 FM 1093, Richmond
