Ryan and Lauren Cutchen said they opened OsteoStrong in The Woodlands in October 2022 to join in the franchise’s mission to help those with osteoporosis increase bone density using a series of robotic musculoskeletal treatment devices.

The inspiration came from Ryan Cutchen’s mother, who saw her bone density increase by 15% over 14 months while using OsteoStrong’s services, he said.

“We got involved with OsteoStrong because my mom started going [to OsteoStrong] in California, and it changed her life,” Ryan Cutchen said.

What you need to know

Osteoporosis is a chronic condition characterized by low bone mass, deterioration of bone tissue and increased fracture risk. Cutchen said it's important to focus on exercising to help slow down bone loss at the age of 25.

OsteoStrong’s mission is to increase bone density with equipment developed by Dr. John Jacob and based on Wolff's law, Ryan Cutchen said. Wolff's law demonstrates the benefits of weight resistance exercise, he said.

The equipment used at OsteoStrong includes a four-device circuit that takes about an hour to fully complete under the direction of a skilled technician.

Each device provides instant biofeedback to demonstrate results, and members' data is recorded with a detailed report sent at the end of each session, Ryan Cutchen said.

Other health services offered include:
  • Red light therapy: Red light therapy uses red low-level wavelengths to reputedly treat skin conditions, increase blood flow and promote hair growth.
  • BioCharger: The BioCharger uses light, sound, and electromagnetic frequencies to stimulate healing.
  • PEMF Therapy: The device aims to speed up the healing and injury recovery process.
  • Normatec Boots: The boots reputedly increase mobility, flexibility and circulation.

Why it matters

Ryan Cutchen said The Woodlands OsteoStrong services have helped over 30 people. People using the services have regained their grip strength and improved their posture as well as their balance, he said.

Improvements such as someone regaining the ability to do daily activities on their own like opening a jar are as important as someone regaining their balance and no longer needing a cane to walk, Ryan Cutchen said.

“Those small wins are just as big to us as anything else,” he said.

Free sessions are available for first-time customers, and memberships range from $179-$219 a month.
