Neat Method

What are some of the most difficult areas of a house to organize and why?

Kitchens and closets would definitely be two top contenders. Each of these spaces typically house a high volume of items, and creating the best plan that works for the function and flow of the physical space—as well as the contents that will live there—can be a bit of a puzzle to piece together. These factors also make them more time-consuming organization projects.

For homeowners that feel overwhelmed, what is the best way to start organizing a messy house?

One step at a time. Start with one space and work through it until it’s completed. If organizing is overwhelming to you, start with a smaller space and build up to those larger, more daunting spaces. There are a few simple steps for making the space neat. Take everything—and we mean everything—out. As you take out, edit—purge the old and unused—, sort and categorize the items. Take a quick inventory of your finalized categories, and plan based on factors like the size of the category, how often you use it, and where it best fits in the overall flow of the space. Then put it in its place.

What can homeowners do to make cluttered areas more aesthetically pleasing?

First things first: edit. Assess the contents of a space and determine if it’s something that you love, frequently use or if it should no longer be taking up valuable real estate in your home. Next, get creative. The right mix of organizational products is one of our favorite ways to keep those filled areas contained and functional with a stylish flair. Baskets and canvas bins are perfect for your closet, acrylic and plastic organizers are best in the bathroom, and a kitchen or pantry can easily be made more functional and aesthetically pleasing with a mix of both.

What are a few organization trends you are seeing in homes in The Woodlands area?

Custom built-ins are gaining such traction as homeowners are truly crafting their homes to complement their lifestyles. A few of our favorites include appliance garages for the baking or
coffee aficionado and mudrooms customized with built-in storage for pet items as well as creative, interactive playrooms with smart storage. These custom built-ins truly allow us to complete the aesthetic and function of the space with a neat look.
