Barks and Brews
June 10
The Lone Star Animal Welfare League will host a raffle drawing for a craft beer basket—valued at $125—at GenuWine Tasting Room. The King of Swing Charities will host the 17th annual Christopher James Newton Memorial Weekend, benefitting the Houston area Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter. Chris Newton grew up in Texas and died in a car accident in 2000. His family and friends have continued gathering annually to benefit charities in his name. This year’s event features dinner, dancing, live entertainment and a silent auction—all with a Golden Age of Hollywood theme. $50 (per adult dinner ticket), free (children ages 12 and younger). 5:30 p.m.-1 a.m. The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, 2301 North Millbend Drive, The Woodlands. www.kingofswing.net
