A new one-on-one reference service provided by the Montgomery County Memorial Library System staff launched June 15.

The program involves scheduled virtual consultations with library staff covering a variety of topics. Library patrons may register for an appointment to receive book or movie recommendations, tech support or research assistance.

“Sometimes you need something else to read or watch and you just can’t find it through our online catalog. That’s exactly why we developed this new service,” said Natasha Benway, the library system's marketing librarian, in a statement. “Although the library building is not open for browsing due to safety reasons, our staff is here and we are able to help you find a new series to read or watch, help with that gardening question or even solve basic tech issues.”

Virtual reference appointments must be scheduled 24 hours in advance and are held over GoToMeeting Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The library system's appointment calendar may be viewed here.

All in-person library events remain canceled, although virtual programming for children and adults is continuing this month through the library system's Facebook page. County library lobbies also opened for pickup and drop-off service in May.
