Hwy. 90A at the intersection of the Grand Parkway will temporarily close this weekend, May 3-5, as part of ongoing improvements on the Sugar Land corridor.

What you need to know

The Texas Department of Transportation will close Hwy. 90A east and westbound at the intersection of the Grand Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday, May 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, according to a TxDOT news release.

According to the release, drivers should expect the following detours during this timeframe:
  • Drivers westbound on Hwy. 90A should travel north on the Grand Parkway’s frontage road to FM 1464, turning under the Grand Parkway and then going south on the Grand Parkway frontage road back to Hwy. 90A.
  • Eastbound drivers on Hwy. 90A will be detoured similarly to the south, turning around under the Grand Parkway at Sandhill Drive and driving back to Hwy. 90A.

Zooming out

The closure is due to a $46.69 million project to reconstruct Hwy. 90A between Cunningham Creek Boulevard to Gateway Boulevard, TxDOT Public Information Officer Kristina Hadley said in an email.

Hadley said the project aims to improve mobility and safety as well as enhance infrastructure on the roadway.

Project details include:
  • Adding reinforced concrete pavement
  • Improving drainage, curbs and gutters
  • Adding a sidewalk, retaining walls and a sound wall
  • Building a bridge over the intersection to bypass the traffic signal
  • Installing signage, pavement markings and traffic signals
Next steps

Construction for the road began in September and is set to wrap up in late 2025, Hadley said.
