At a July 19 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved the purchase of 0.083 acres located at 1350 First Colony Blvd., Sugar Land, for $61,588 to obtain the right of way for the Soldiers Field Drive extension. The project, which will extend Soldiers Field to Hwy. 6, aims to improve the intersection at Soldiers Field and First Colony Boulevard to help alleviate traffic congestion. It is scheduled to go to bid in late summer or early fall, according to city officials. The project comes after a 2016 traffic engineering study revealed the need for improved traffic circulation due to the high number of accidents in the area.
